Mercy Ministry Resources

With our first sermon on the so-called 'Third Table' of "faithful presence in the world," Dcn Josh this past Sunday provided us a wonderful reminder of the LORD's call for us to be agents of mercy. We who have received so much mercy need to extend it towards others--both inside and outside the house of faith.

Here I want to invite you to participate in some works of mercy our parish is participating in:

We wash and fold the laundry and bedding of low income and homeless folks the 4th (if there is one, the 5th) Tuesday of the month. It is a wonderful way to serve those in need, and even perhaps pray with them about their needs. Register here to find out more about location, dates and times.

Salvation Army of Lewisville is a ministry partner of our church and has a number of ways to help support their ministry. We will be participating in their Angel Tree ministry this Christmas season (more details coming soon). They are also looking for bell-ringers for their Christmas season fund-raising drive. Each summer we pack lunches for one week. Church members Charles Gross and Mark Gribbin regularly volunteer there. They are excellent contact persons who can help you get involved at Salvation Army.

Finally, our church will be raising money for a special Christmas offering in support of hurricane relief through Anglican Relief and Development Fund. We will announce more details about that special offering in just a couple of weeks. Meanwhile, ARDF is also mobilizing volunteer teams to help with clean up and reconstruction efforts in the aftermath of Hurricanes Helene and Milton. You can volunteer here. ARDF is an outstanding organization founded by the Anglican Church in North America to help support development efforts across the Global South and relief efforts at home and abroad.

It is my hope and prayer that as we grow in our love of the LORD that it takes deep root not just in worship and adoration of Him, or in our efforts to train up others in the faith, but also in works of mercy and compassion for those in need. That was exactly Jesus's way of life as He walked the earth 2,000 years ago. He went about preaching and teaching, leading others to the Father, and healing, casting out demons and meeting the physical needs of all those he encountered. May we truly follow in His ways!
